DN rapporterar att teokratin Iran provsköt ett antal robotar i mitten på veckan, och kompletterar med en bild på sin förstasida. Vad man däremot inte rapporterar är första releasen av bilder från ”evenemanget”. New York Times blogg har mer:
As news spread across the world of Iran’s provocative missile tests, so did an image of four missiles heading skyward in unison. Unfortunately, it appeared to contain one too many missiles, a point that had not emerged before the photo was used on the front pages of The Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times, The Chicago Tribune and several other newspapers as well as on BBC News, MSNBC, Yahoo! News, NYTimes.com and many other major news Web sites.

As the above illustration shows, the second missile from the right appears to be the sum of two other missiles in the image. The contours of the billowing smoke match perfectly near the ground, as well in the immediate wake of the missile. Only a small black dot in the reddish area of exhaust seems to differ from the missile to its left, though there are also some slight variations in the color of the smoke and the sky.
Opåverkad bild (klicka för större)
Det är nyhetsbyrån AFP som stod för bildens introducering till västmedia, en bild som man i sin tur fått från Republikanska Gardets egna nyhetsbyrå, Sepah News. Så snart det uppdagats att bilden var mixtrad med drog AFP in den men inte innan tidningar som The Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times, The Chicago Tribune och webbplatser som BBC News, MSNBC, Yahoo! News och NYTimes.com hade lagt upp den.
Vad som skrämmer är att en så uppenbart mixtrad bild slängs upp utan en stunds eftertanke på några av världens största tidningar/nyhetswebbplatser. Såsom MSNBCs mediaredaktör Rich Shulman uttrycker det:
As the media editor working the msnbc.com home page yesterday, I was frustrated with the quality of a fuzzy video image we published of the Iranian missile launch… So I was thrilled when the top image crossed the news wires
Naturligtvis har detta inte kommenterats utav den Iranska nyhetsbyrån, istället har en ny bild (den opåverkade ovan) lagts upp. Allah moves in mysterious ways antar jag.
Och när vi ändå är inne på New York Times och Photoshop; Fox News visade att man tar den moraliskt rätta vägen när man förra veckan gjorde ett inslag om två NY Times-reportrar. Detta gjordes dels genom påhäftandet av tituleringen ”attack dogs” samt visandet av dessa bilder. Kalla mig pretentiös och gammalmodig men den där typen av rapportering är inget jag ser framför mig att t.ex. BBC News ägnar sig.
Hur som, tidningen Vanity Fair tyckte det kunde vara på sin plats att svara med samma mynt. Resultatet blev riktigt lyckat må jag säga…
